Health Supervisor: Girl Scouts of Utah

Have you ever thought about being a Camp Nurse? Join our camp staff and support the physical and mental wellness of our campers and staff while spending an unforgettable summer in the Wasatch Mountains!

Care and work with campers and staff to add outdoor medical experience to your resume as a nursing student or fill your summer as a camp nurse. The health supervisor will oversee the care and safety of the entire camp community including distributing daily medications, assessing camper and staff health needs, administering first-aid application, responding to camp medical emergencies and assisting the administrative team as needed.

Join us for one week or the entire summer at our overnight summer camps - Trefoil Ranch (Provo, Utah) or Camp Cloud Rim (Park City, Utah). Trefoil Ranch runs May 31 - August 7. Camp Cloud Rim runs June 9 - August 12. Salary is commensurate to experience. $405-$735/week

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the camp Leadership Team
  • Meet with families during check-in and check-out
  • Distribute medications (over-the-counter and prescription) at breakfast, lunch, afternoon, supper, bedtime, and as needed to campers and camp staff.
  • Ensure campers and camp staff with special diets are being cared for.
  • Ensure campers' basic needs are being met (showers, clean underwear/socks, hydration, food, etc.).
  • Tend to basic first aid - cuts, scraps, sunburns, chapped lips/cheeks, throwing up, diarrhea, headaches, and so forth.
  • Tend to emergency first aid - dislocated elbows, injuries related to the horse program (thrown off a horse, stepped on by a horse), injuries related to the waterfront program (hypothermia, cuts from equipment use), panic attacks, asthma attacks, self-harming, and so forth.
  • Drive campers and camp staff to the clinic if needed.
  • Communicate with the Camp Director and with the families when campers need more than basic first aid.
  • Maintain confidentiality and working closely with the Camp Director.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years old with a clean driving record and auto insurance is preferred
  • Several years of relevant experience required.
  • Minimum of Wilderness First Aid certificate (WFA) required. (Will train the right person!) Registered Nurse license if preferred.
  • Hold a current Utah Food Handler's Permit.
  • Possess good organizational, leadership, and teaching skills:
  • Ability to schedule and manage time, and resources.
  • Strong decision-making skills while exercising good judgment.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to respond in a crisis.
  • Ability to bend down and move, lift, stock, and carry boxes, program materials, and supplies (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to walk, stand, and work on feet up to 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to live in a high elevation (up to 9200') and outdoor setting.
