Position Title:         Training and Development Coordinator

Reports to:              Volunteer Support Manager

FLSA Status:           Exempt


Job Purpose:

Our adult volunteers are the primary way in which the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is delivered. It is crucial that these leaders receive appropriate, accessible, and timely training in order to be successful in their roles. The Training and Development Coordinator will provide exceptional support to our valued members through the development, delivery, and evaluation of all training activities, both in person and online, for volunteers and older girl members.


  • Develop, schedule, and implement a year-round learning program to meet the needs of all volunteers, utilizing appropriate instructional methods (e.g. online, group instruction, self-study, demonstrations, etc.).
  • Assess, design, develop and deploy training and development programs for the organization, which builds organizational capabilities in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Provide recommendations for cost effective developmental tools utilizing both internal and external resources, as appropriate.
  • Develop a formal infrastructure for all training and development programs by establishing standardized methods and procedures for delivery, evaluation, measurement and reporting.
  • Manage scheduling and tracking processes to monitor and report on training activities.
  • Research, keep abreast of, and bring best practices related to training and development to the Council.
  • Ensure legal compliance of the Council's training and development practices.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other staff members to design and carry out training curriculum, as needed.
  • Support large-scale volunteer training events such as Leadership Summit and Annual Training Conference/Outdoor Conference.
  • Manage and update council gsLearn (GSUSA's volunteer and staff learning management system) content.
  • Support staff with presentation technology (i.e. Zoom, GoToWebinar, Power Point).
  • Organize and develop training manuals, reference library materials, evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials based on GSUSA recommendations and state-of-art thinking on adult learning and development.
  • Train selected staff and volunteer instructors in effective techniques for training and developing volunteers.
  • Recruit and maintain teams of trainers to provide training in specific content, pathways and geographic areas.
  • Identify training opportunities for council trainers, update trainer files, and handle notification of all training group meetings.
  • Edit policy documents for volunteers and assist in their rollout to the volunteers.
  • Conduct training and serve as a substitute trainer when volunteer trainer is not available.
  • Develop annual goals, objectives and budget in connection with department goals and strategy. Monitor, report on progress, and evaluate goal attainment.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.
  • Job duties may be subject to change pursuant to the activities of the department and the organization as a whole.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in adult/youth education, instructional design, program development, or related field.
  • Minimum two years' experience in training, sales, marketing, education, community organization or related fields.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, lead, and train staff members and volunteers.
  • Must be a self-driven, self-starter individual with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Exceptional oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly to people in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to edit work for spelling and grammar, present numerical data effectively, and able to read and interpret written information.
  • Sound decision-making ability and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, ability to work independently, prioritize projects accordingly with time sensitive deadlines, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality and manage multiple projects.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft office, databases, email, internet applications, social media, and internet research. Experience with developing online training preferred.
  • Ability to work as a full-time, non-exempt staff member, which includes some evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional travel throughout Utah is required. Must have reliable vehicle for transportation, current driver's license, and automobile insurance.
  • Ability to sit at a workstation for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Ability to view a computer screen for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • English Preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vison of Girl Scouts to internal and external stakeholders.
